Professor Miroslaw J. Skibniewski

Dr Mirosław J. Skibniewski is Professor of Civil/Construction Engineering and Project Management at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA and a former Professor of Civil Engineering and Associate Provost at Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana, USA). A recipient of M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA), Prof. Skibniewski is an elected foreign member of the Russian Academy of Engineering and an elected full member of the Academy of Engineering in Poland.

His prior appointments include visiting eminent scholar and/or distinguished endowed chair professorships in the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University (USA), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study, Chaoyang Universty of Technology (Taichung, Taiwan), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), National University of Singapore, University of Technology Sydney (Australia), CSIRO-Australia, Technical University of Munich (Germany), Loughborough University (UK), Cardiff University (Wales, UK), University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia), Moscow State Industrial University (Russia), and from his original alma mater - Warsaw University of Technology (Poland).

Among Prof. Skibniewski's honors are the National Science Foundation (USA) Presidential Young Investigator Award, American Society of Civil Engineers' W.L. Huber Research Prize, A. James Clark Endowed Chair Professorship at the University of Maryland, Tucker-Hasegawa Research Prize from the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction (IAARC), Visiting Distinguished Fellow appointment by the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), ordinary professorship at the Institute for Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, honorary doctorate from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania), as well as honorary professorships from Moscow State Industrial University (Russia), Tsinghua University (Beijing, China), Tianjin University (China), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Wuhan, China) and Tongji University (Shanghai, China).

Prof. Skibniewski is the Editor-in-Chief of Automation in Construction, an international research journal published by Elsevier, as well as a Founding Director, Past President and Honorary Lifetime Member of IAARC.


Professor Rafael Sacks

Professor of Construction Engineering and Management at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies and Research in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Prof. Sacks’ research focuses on the synergies of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Lean Construction. Recent work at the Seskin Virtual Construction Lab at the Technion, which he leads, has included development of BIM-enabled lean production control systems; semantic enrichment of BIM models using machine learning and rule-processing, with application to BIM interoperability, model acquisition from point-cloud data, and code-compliance checking; BIM systems for earthquake search, rescue and recovery; and design for safety. He is the lead author of the "BIM Handbook", currently in its 3rd edition, and of a new book on Lean and BIM implementation in construction, "Building Lean, Building BIM: Changing Construction the Tidhar Way". He has received numerous awards for research and teaching, most recently the Thomas Fitch Rowland prize of the ASCE’s Construction Institute, in 2016. Prof. Sacks is the author or co-author of 77 papers in international peer-reviewed academic journals, 95 peer-reviewed conference papers, and numerous research reports.

Professor Jerome Lynch

Prof Lynch is the Donald Malloure Department Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering; he is also a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.  He serves as Director of the University of Michigan Urban Collaboratory, a campus-wide research initiative focused working directly with city stakeholders on the advancement of smart and health city technologies.  Dr. Lynch completed his graduate studies at Stanford University where he received his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2002, M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1998, and M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2003. Prior to attending Stanford, Dr. Lynch received his B.E. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Cooper Union in New York City.  His primary research interests center on the areas of wireless cyber-physical systems, cyberinfrastructure tools for monitoring data, and asset management strategies for infrastructure resiliency.  He has co-authored one book and over 200 articles in peer reviewed journal and conferences. Dr. Lynch has been awarded the 2005 ONR Young Investigator Award, 2009 NSF CAREER Award, 2009 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), 2012 ASCE EMI Leonardo da Vinci Award and 2014 ASCE Huber Award.
